Encourage staff to belong to their own professional associations and become familiar with staff in other firms. The benefits? You never know where a referral may come from, staff becomes more engaged in their profession, gains an avenue for exhibiting their professionalism, as well as a valuable network that can help out when questions arise. And the best benefit of all – education (most legal associations’ main goal is educating their membership in various aspects of law and professionalism).
The best form of encouragement? Pay their yearly dues and monthly fees, and give educational credit (when appropriate) for seminars and meetings attended.
